A Concrete retaining wall is a protective structure, first and foremost. It should be built firmly to have a stable support. But it can also serve as a decorative architectural element. It is this blend of beauty and functionality that any home addition should strive for.
While it’s certainly possible to hire a contractor to build something like this, there’s really no reason not to. Because you can does this home project yourself and it won’t take as much time as you think and it will save quite a few dollars if the simple home additions are done on your own.
Just need a little drive and determination and make a plan and then stick to it. Before you know it, your retaining wall will be built and you’ll be confident looking for your next home project.
The first task is to excavate the area where we are planning to install the retaining wall. If the area is on a slope, so be sure to grade the soil. Drive wooden stakes into the slope and spread a masonry twine over them.
Dig a trench at the top of the wall for the base trench. Fill the gap in our retaining wall with stones of different colors. And then level off using a rake. Gather the stones together using a tamper.
For the first course, we lay a first base of concrete on top of the stones for our retaining wall. Use a torpedo level to make sure the concrete is even on all sides. Continue pouring the concrete while leveling the stones. Wear safety gloves.
When cutting the starting block into halves (for a strong grip and vertical joints placeholders) do this with blocks in each even-numbered row. Use a hammer with a brick chisel for this purpose. This makes for a strong Concrete retaining wall.
As with the second course, insert a second row after cutting off the initial block of even-numbered rows. Move each block back a bit to make sure we’re sloping back a little bit to push off the thing we need support. This is for a Concrete retaining wall.
Then, as the wall rises, shrink the earth behind it. As we fill the back with soil, Reinforce the wall with concrete, the higher it goes. The fill between the wall and the soil should be more cement mixture to maintain the strength of the wall material.
For our final grading, the higher the wall, the further the slope will be from the top of the wall. Fill the trench with crushed stones that are above the ground. The fill level should be a few inches below the top of the wall.
When building a stand-alone Concrete retaining wall, choose interlocking blocks. Take care to refill the trench or trench right after the base or footing or foundation layer.
