ULTA CREDIT CARD: 5 FACTS

This Community-issued Ulta credit card isn’t for everyone. It has the same problems as many other shop cards, such as a high continuing APR and a restricted ability to redeem rewards.
It’s not a typical store card, but the high point values make it worthwhile if you often purchase at Ulta or, more specifically, visit the Ulta salon.
Here are five facts regarding the Ulta credit card that you should know.
ULTA OFFERS TWO DIFFERENT CREDIT CARDS.
Your creditworthiness and financial history will determine which of two Ulta credit card options you’ll be given when you apply:
- Since it may only be used at Ulta Beauty and Ulta Website, the Ultamate Rewards Ulta credit card is considered a “closed-loop” card.
- Ultamate Rewards MasterCard is an “open-loop” card that may be used everywhere MasterCard is accepted.
There is no annual charge for either card, but individuals with excellent credit will have more options and perks with the MasterCard. For instance, in September of 2022, new Ultamate Rewards MasterCard members will be eligible for a minor sign-up bonus. (There is no such extra in the retail edition.)
THEY COMPLEMENT ULTA’S REWARD PROGRAMMED FOR CUSTOMERS
Ulta’s loyalty programmed, Ultamate Rewards, whose name appears on the store’s credit cards, is open to anybody and doesn’t need a credit card to participate. Here’s how quickly your Ulta credit card can rack up points in the store’s reward programmed:
- The dollar you spend equals two points at Ulta. You get 2 points total for signing up with this credit card and your Ultamate Rewards membership.
- Excluding Ulta, you’ll get 1 point for every $3 you spend (MasterCard version only).
Initial impressions don’t provide a pretty picture of those percentages. Some no-annual-fee Ulta credit card are good for all kinds of purchases and provide you 2% cash back. However, depending on how much you spend with the company, you may increase your Ulta card’s rewards to as much as 2.5 percent back. Discounted deals available on Ulta coupon $10 off $40.
The three levels of Ulta’s rewards programmed are as follows:
- Yearly spending bare minimum
- Accumulated reward points ($1 spent = 1 point)
- Earnings on a credit card (per dollar spent)
- Detailed Points Earned Per Dollar Spent
When you include salon services, they aren’t astronomically high spending minimums for an Ulta devotee to satisfy annually. You may spend upwards of $42 on a bottle of luxury mascara, and a single haircut can cost you upwards of $60.
As an added bonus, the points you earn are more valuable than you would expect.
HIGH POINT VALUES, BUT CHECK EXPIRY!
As with many shop cards, Ulta points may only be redeemed inside the brand on Ulta credit card. Ultamate Rewards points are worth more than the industry norm of a cent per point. Unlike many shop cards, the minimum redemption requirement is merely 100 points, and you select when and how many to redeem.
By using a bigger amount in one transaction, you may double the worth of your points.
Points redeem Base-level members’ points expire after a year. If you don’t spend enough at Ulta to achieve the Platinum or Diamond levels (where points don’t expire), create a calendar reminder.
ULTA SALON CUSTOMERS MAY SAVE…
This is the best Ulta credit card perk. All Ultamate benefits apply to the Ulta salon. General-purpose credit cards seldom provide salon-service bonuses. If you spend a lot on salon services and Ulta hair products and cosmetics, you’ll get points.
To assess the Ulta credit card usefulness, I computed my potential savings if I moved all my normal services and purchases to Ulta. I have my hair trimmed and colored every 6-8 weeks, so I budgeted $600 each year for products.
Outcomes? In a year, I quickly earned 3,600 points, worth more than $200 off purchases. That’s nearly 12% back before Platinum or Diamond level points, discounts, or incentives. Because points may be used for salon treatments, it would cover at least one per year.

The Ultamate Rewards MasterCard’s continuing APR varied from 18.49% to 27.49% in September 2022, depending on creditworthiness. The Ultamate Rewards Credit Card’s ongoing APR was 27.49%.
