The Consortium of National Law Universities released the CLAT notification 2023 in August 2022 on its official website. The CLAT notification 2023 includes all the essential details about the CLAT 2023 exam. 

CLAT 2023: Overview

The Consortium announced the CLAT 2023 exam date way before the CLAT notification 2023 was released. It is scheduled for 18 December 2022. However, all other essential exam details are out. They are available on the CLAT 2023 official website.

CLAT 2023: Eligibility Criteria

Before sitting for an exam, there are certain predetermined conditions that every candidate must fulfill. These conditions are the eligibility criteria for the exam. Similarly, the Consortium has specified specific criteria for each CLAT aspirant to qualify for admission through CLAT 2023. The Eligibility criteria for CLAT-UG and CLAT-PG are given separately on the website. 

CLAT 2023 UG: Eligibility Criteria

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA GUIDELINES BY CONSORTIUM
Qualifying Examination 10+2 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board or institution
Minimum Qualifying marks For General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI category candidates: 45% or its equivalent grade in Qualifying examination.

For SC/ST candidates: 40% or its equivalent grade in Qualifying examination.

Age No upper age limit

 

CLAT 2023 PG: Eligibility Criteria

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA GUIDELINES BY CONSORTIUM
Qualifying Examination An LL.B Degree or an equivalent degree/ examination from a recognized university.
Minimum Qualifying marks 50% marks or its equivalent grade for General/OBC/NRI/PIO/OCI candidates.

45% marks or equivalent for SC/ST candidates.

Age No upper age limit

The Consortium also released the question paper format through the CLAT notification 2023. It will help aspirants get familiarized with the CLAT exam pattern. The CLAT UG question paper format differs slightly from the CLAT PG Paper format.

CLAT 2023 Syllabus

The CLAT notification 2023 also provides the candidates with the CLAT 2023 syllabus. The candidates can refer to the UG syllabus & Guide section of the CLAT 2023 official website to know the CLAT UG syllabus. An overview of the CLAT UG syllabus is given below.

  1. Section I – English: The questions in this section aim to test the candidate’s comprehension skills through passages of 450 words each. The passages will be about some historical and recent events. The passages can be fictional as well as non-fictional.
  2. Section II – Current Affairs: This section includes questions from Static GK, politics, Sports, famous personalities, prizes and awards, world affairs etc.
  3. Section III- Legal reasoning:  This Section will check the candidates’ aptitude for legal studies. Passages will state current or static news that is law related. Study of law, Legal GK, current affairs, International treaties, Court Decisions/Judgements etc., are some of the crucial topics of this section.
  4. Section IV- Logical Reasoning: This section assesses the Verbal reasoning skills of the candidates. Topics like syllogism, directions, puzzles, cause & effect, clocks & calendars, logical sequencing etc., will be included.
  5. Section V- Quantitative Techniques: This section intends to assess the quantitative aptitude of the candidates. The section includes topics from elementary mathematics. Most questions are related to bar graphs, charts and other graphical representations. Apart from this, algebra, profit loss, measurement, speed & distance, work & time, and other elementary mathematics topics are important.

The CLAT PG exam, the syllabus includes the compulsory subjects studied by candidates in their undergraduate law degree. Topics like Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Law of Contract, Torts, Family Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, Company Law, Public International Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law, and Labour & Industrial Law are also included.
